The difference between stone grinding and glass grinding

1. Since deeply processed stone materials are mainly used in decorative engineering projects, with small batches and multiple specifications, some semi-automated machines are currently used for deep processing of slab-type stone materials. For example, horizontal line machines are used for rough grinding, fine grinding, and polishing of lines with a width of 15-30 cm. However, most shaping still relies on manual processing with hand-held grinding machines, such as cabinets, bay windows, baseboards, and footrests. Currently, the market is also starting to use vertical stone edge grinding machines for processing, which improves efficiency and precision, reduces production costs, and is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. In addition to edge processing, slab materials also undergo surface processing.

I. Differences in Edging Methods

1. Since deeply processed stone materials are mainly used in decorative engineering projects, with small batches and diverse specifications, some deep processing of flat stone materials currently uses semi-automated machines. For example, 15-30 cm wide lines use horizontal line machines for rough grinding, fine grinding, and polishing. Most shaping still relies on manual hand-held grinding machines, such as cabinets, bay windows, baseboards, and footrests. The market is also beginning to use vertical stone edging machines for processing, improving efficiency and precision, reducing production costs, and being energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. In addition to edge processing, there is also surface processing for slabs.

2. After deep processing, flat glass is mainly used in home appliances, automobiles, solar energy, curtain wall projects, etc. Glass products have large batches and few specifications. For example, shower room glass and stovetop glass can be deeply processed in large batches. The main processes are edging, drilling, cleaning, screen printing, and tempering, etc. Edging is entirely done by machines, with a high degree of automation. Glass processing mainly focuses on edge processing.

II. Differences in Processing Shapes

1. The shapes of deeply processed stone materials are relatively complex. In addition to normal flat bottoms and rounded edges, there are various shapes, which are obtained by changing the shaped grinding wheels on the machine. Most are manually polished, such as surface lines, semi-circular arcs, and stair treads, producing beautiful shapes.

2. Flat glass processing mainly focuses on edging, with simple shapes, mainly flat bottoms, rounded edges, and duckbill edges.

III. Differences in Edging Machines

1. Stone edging machines include horizontal line machines, horizontal edging machines, vertical edging machines, CNC machining centers, and hand-held grinding wheels. Among them, vertical edging machines have more functions and can process various shapes of glass and other materials. For marble slabs, vertical placement prevents breakage, ensuring high processing reliability, convenient installation, debugging, and maintenance, and high efficiency. Although CNC machining centers can grind various shapes of edges, they are expensive and difficult for the market to accept.

2. Glass edging machines include vertical and horizontal edging machines, such as straight line edging machines, straight beveling machines, straight double-sided machines, shaped edging machines, and CNC numerical control edging machines. They integrate rough grinding, fine grinding, and polishing. Commonly used for processing glass with a thickness of 3-25 mm. Machines for processing laminated glass with a thickness exceeding 25 mm need to be custom-made. Glass edging machines can also process stone slabs with a thickness less than 25 mm.
